Rest For the Weary!
An inspirational devotion from Still, I Will! Ministries
Scripture
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28–30 (NIV)
Dear Friends,
Life has a way of leaving us exhausted. Some burdens are visible, while others are carried quietly within the heart. There are deadlines to meet, relationships to mend, health battles to endure, grief to process, and countless responsibilities that can slowly drain our strength.
Many people spend their lives searching for rest. They hope that the next vacation, the next promotion, or the next season of life will finally bring peace. Yet even after the body has rested, the soul can still feel weary.
Jesus offers something far greater than a temporary escape. He extends a personal invitation not to a place, but to Himself.
“Come to me.”
These four words reveal the heart of our Savior. He doesn’t tell us to carry our burdens a little longer or to prove ourselves worthy of His help. He simply invites us.
One of the greatest misconceptions about the Christian life is that following Jesus means carrying more weight. In reality, Christ came to lift the burdens we were never meant to bear.
He doesn’t promise a life without challenges. He promises His presence in every challenge.
When Jesus speaks of taking His yoke upon us, He paints a picture His listeners understood well. A yoke joined two oxen together so they could share the work. When we choose Christ’s yoke, we are no longer trying to navigate life alone. We are walking beside the One who has already overcome the world.
Notice the words Jesus uses to describe Himself: gentle and humble in heart.
Our Savior is not harsh with those who are struggling. He doesn’t shame the exhausted or reject those who feel overwhelmed. Instead, He welcomes them with compassion and grace. He understands every tear, every disappointment, every unanswered prayer, and every anxious thought.
The rest Jesus offers is deeper than physical relaxation. It is the settled confidence that comes from trusting Him with what we cannot control. It is the peace that steadies us in the middle of uncertainty. It is the assurance that God is still working even when we cannot see the outcome.
Many of us try to carry yesterday’s regrets, today’s responsibilities, and tomorrow’s worries all at the same time. No wonder we become weary.
Jesus invites us to lay those burdens down.
When we surrender our fears to Him, He replaces anxiety with peace. When we surrender our failures, He offers forgiveness. When we surrender our weakness, He supplies strength. And when we surrender our future, He reminds us that every step is safely held in His hands.
Perhaps today you feel emotionally drained. Maybe you’ve been fighting a battle that no one else knows about. Maybe you’ve prayed the same prayer over and over and wonder how much longer you can keep going.
Hear the voice of Jesus again: “Come to me…”
That invitation has no expiration date. It is as true today as it was when Jesus first spoke those words. He is still welcoming the weary. He is still restoring the broken. He is still giving rest to those who trust Him.
Whatever burden you are carrying today, you do not have to carry it alone. Bring it to Jesus. He has shoulders strong enough for every weight and a heart gentle enough for every wounded soul.
In His presence, weary hearts discover lasting rest.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for inviting me to come to You just as I am. You know every burden I carry, every fear I face, and every struggle that weighs upon my heart.
Help me to stop striving in my own strength and learn to rest in Yours. Teach me to trust You with what I cannot control and to walk beside You each day with confidence and peace.
When I become overwhelmed, remind me that Your grace is sufficient and that Your presence is enough. Replace my anxiety with Your peace, my weariness with Your strength, and my discouragement with renewed hope.
Thank You for being a gentle and faithful Savior who never turns away those who come to You.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
Reflection Questions

Today’s Encouragement
You don’t have to carry tomorrow’s worries while living today. Bring your burdens to Jesus, trust His faithful hands, and discover the rest that only He can give. When the weight of life feels too heavy, remember His invitation:
Come to Me… and I will give you rest.
With Unshakable Hope,
Scott
