Wounded So We Could Be Whole!

Scripture: Isaiah 53:5 (NIV)

“But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.”

Dear Friends,

There are moments in life when the wounds we carry seem too deep to heal. Some are visible—illness, loss, disappointment, or physical pain. Others are hidden beneath the surface—grief, betrayal, shame, fear, or regret. We often wonder if we will ever truly recover.Isaiah, writing hundreds of years before the birth of Christ, paints a breathtaking picture of the coming Messiah. Jesus would not simply sympathize with our suffering—He would step into it. He would be pierced, crushed, and wounded, not because of His own sin, but because of ours.

The cross was not an accident; it was God’s rescue plan. Every nail, every lash, every drop of blood declared the immeasurable love of God for humanity. Jesus took upon Himself the punishment we deserved so that we could receive the peace we could never earn.

His wounds purchased our forgiveness.His suffering secured our peace.His sacrifice opened the door to healing.

Healing doesn’t always mean the immediate removal of our pain or circumstances. Sometimes God heals our bodies. Sometimes He heals our hearts. Sometimes He heals relationships, restores hope, or gives us the strength to endure. Ultimately, our greatest healing is found in being made right with God through Jesus Christ, with the promise of complete restoration when we are with Him forever.

As someone who has walked through the valley of leukemia, countless hospital days, and seasons filled with uncertainty, I’ve learned that healing often comes in unexpected ways. God may not remove every scar, but He never wastes one. The scars become reminders—not of defeat—but of His faithfulness.

Whatever wounds you carry today, bring them to the Savior who bore wounds for you. He understands your pain because He has experienced suffering Himself. And because He lives, your wounds do not have the final word.

Because Jesus was wounded, we can live with hope. Because He was crushed, we can experience peace. Because He conquered death, we can trust Him with every part of our lives.

Still, I Will…trust the One whose wounds have made me whole.

PrayerLord Jesus, thank You for willingly taking my place on the cross. Thank You for bearing my sin, my shame, and my sorrow so that I could experience forgiveness, peace, and healing. Help me to trust You with every wound I carry today. Heal my heart where it is broken, strengthen my faith where it is weak, and remind me daily that Your sacrifice has given me an unshakable hope. May my life reflect gratitude for all You have done. In Your precious name, Amen.
