A Heart of Gratitude in Every Season

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18

As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday this verse was laid on my heart as a great reminder of what God calls us to do each and everyday and in every season we go through. I pray that this devotional thought will encourage you to give thanks in every season.

We all know that life can change in an instant. One day the path seems smooth and clear, and the next, it feels like you’re climbing a mountain in the dark. Yet Paul’s words remind us that no matter the season — joy or sorrow, abundance or need — our calling as followers of Christ remains the same: to rejoice, to pray, and to give thanks.

It’s not easy to rejoice when our hearts are heavy. But joy isn’t dependent on our circumstances; it’s rooted in our relationship with Jesus. Our joy flows from knowing that God is with us, working all things together for our good and His glory.

When Paul says, “pray without ceasing,” he’s inviting us to live in constant connection with God — not only in moments of crisis but throughout our day. Prayer becomes the rhythm of our hearts, a quiet conversation that sustains our peace.

And then comes the hardest part: “Give thanks in all circumstances.” Notice that Paul doesn’t say for all circumstances, but in them. Even when life hurts, gratitude shifts our focus from what we’ve lost to what God is doing. It opens our hearts to His presence and reminds us that His grace is enough.

No matter what you’re facing today — joy, uncertainty, or pain — God’s will for you is simple but powerful: rejoice, pray, and give thanks. These three actions invite His peace into your heart and His strength into your life.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to rejoice even when life feels uncertain. Teach me to stay in constant communion with You through prayer, and to find gratitude in every circumstance. Fill my heart with peace that passes understanding and joy that overflows into every area of my life. Amen.

Reflection Prompt:

What’s one thing you can thank God for today — even in the midst of difficulty?

I pray that you and your families have a wonderfulful Thanksgiving !

With Unshakable Hope,
