Still, I Will Begin Again: A Testimony of New Beginnings

There’s something deeply sacred about a new beginning. It doesn’t always start with celebration. Sometimes, it starts with tears, brokenness, or a battle that brings you to the edge of your strength. That was my journey. In 2024, God brought me through a life-altering cancer battle. It was a valley of fear, faith, and ultimately healing. As I stepped into 2025, I did so not only cancer-free—but with a heart full of hope, a mind renewed, and a life brimming with the unmistakable fingerprints of God.
He didn’t just heal me physically. He opened the door to new beginnings:
• I met and fell in love with Carolyn Ferwerda, my God-given partner and soon-to-be wife. We’re getting married this July, and I can already say—she is one of God’s greatest blessings in my life.
• I started a new job as a corporate banker in Tampa, Florida—bringing purpose and provision in a season of fresh opportunity.
• I published a new book, Still, I Will Sing!—a journey of hope and healing, written from a place of pain turned into praise.
• I launched a new ministry, Still, I Will!, a mission to encourage others walking through life’s darkest moments with the light of Jesus.
• And in November, I’ll become a first-time grandfather. My daughter Susannah is expecting her first child—a new life and new legacy being born into our family.
Every one of these moments has been a God-thing. Not random. Not coincidence. But restoration. God has done what only He can do—take what was broken and make it beautiful again.
“See, I Am Doing a New Thing”
Isaiah 43:18–19 says:
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?”
If you find yourself today stuck in a chapter that feels like the end, I want you to know—it’s not the end. It might just be the prelude to your greatest new beginning.
God specializes in turning ashes into beauty (Isaiah 61:3), mourning into dancing (Psalm 30:11), and sorrow into songs of joy (Psalm 126:5). He is not just the God of second chances. He is the God of fresh starts—again and again.
How Can You Trust Him with Your New Beginning?
1. Release the past – Don’t let what was keep you from what will be.
2. Stay expectant – God often moves in unexpected ways, but always with purpose.
3. Lean into Him daily – His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:23).
4. Share your story – Someone else may be waiting to begin again… and your testimony could be the spark.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the gift of new beginnings. Thank You for healing what I thought was too broken, for restoring what I thought was lost, and for opening doors I never imagined. May every new chapter of my life bring You glory and offer hope to someone still waiting for theirs. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Whatever season you’re in, don’t give up. God isn’t finished with you. Still, I Will… Begin Again.
