The Pursuit of Wisdom

A Devotional Blog from Still, I Will! Ministries

This morning I completed my devotional reading of the book of Proverbs. Over the last 31 days I have read one chapter a day and spent time meditating over the scripture and praying that God would help me to understand and pursue His Godly wisdom on a daily basis. If you have not taken the time to do this with the book of Proverbs I strongly encourage it. I wanted to share my thoughts and summary of what God taught me during this time with Him.

Key Scripture:
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” – Proverbs 9:10

In a world that celebrates knowledge and achievement, it’s easy to confuse information with wisdom. We live in an age of instant answers and endless opinions, yet Proverbs reminds us that true wisdom is not found in trending headlines or personal success. Instead, it begins with something deeper—something sacred: the fear of the Lord.

This isn’t a fear that drives us away, but one that draws us near in reverence. It is the awe-filled recognition of who God is—holy, powerful, faithful, and just. It’s a heart posture that says, “God, I don’t just want to know about You—I want to know You.”

The entire book of Proverbs is a divine invitation to live wisely. Not perfectly. Not pridefully. But wisely—with humility, discipline, and trust. Each chapter offers timeless truths that speak to our everyday lives:

  • How to speak with grace and truth
  • How to guard our hearts and minds
  • How to walk with integrity, even when it’s hard
  • How to value character over comfort

As believers, our pursuit isn’t simply knowledge—it’s transformation. Proverbs calls us to seek wisdom as we would search for hidden treasure (Proverbs 2:4). That means we don’t stumble into spiritual growth—we pursue it with intention. We pray. We listen. We lean into God’s Word. And we invite His Spirit to shape our thoughts, decisions, and desires.

Let’s be people who say:

“Still, I will pursue wisdom. Even when it costs. Even when it’s uncomfortable. Even when the world offers easier paths.”

Why? Because the fruit of wisdom is peace, clarity, righteousness, and intimacy with God. And that’s worth everything.

Prayer:

Lord, give me a heart that longs for Your wisdom. Help me to walk in humility, to value truth over comfort, and to trust You more each day. Teach me to live not by the wisdom of the world, but by the wisdom that comes from above. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Reflection:

  • Where in your life do you most need God’s wisdom right now?
  • What steps can you take today to pursue it intentionally?
